Indications

Hyzaar is indicated for the treatment of essential hypertension in adults. The combination of Losartan, an angiotensin II receptor blocker, and Hydrochlorothiazide, a thiazide diuretic, acts synergistically to reduce blood pressure. This medication can be used as initial therapy or in patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled with monotherapy. Additionally, Hyzaar may be useful in reducing the risk of stroke in hypertensive patients with left ventricular hypertrophy.

Composition

Each Hyzaar tablet contains 50 mg of Losartan and 12.5 mg of Hydrochlorothiazide.

Contraindications

Hyzaar is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Losartan, Hydrochlorothiazide, or any of the product's excipients. It is also contraindicated in patients with a history of angioedema related to previous treatments with angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors or angiotensin II receptor blockers. It should not be used in patients with anuria or severe renal insufficiency.

Precautions

Caution should be exercised in patients with dehydration, hypovolemia, or electrolyte disturbances. Renal function and electrolyte levels should be monitored during treatment. In patients with diabetes mellitus or hepatic insufficiency, dose adjustment should be considered. It is important to avoid the concomitant use of other antihypertensive medications without proper medical supervision.

Storage

Hyzaar should be stored in a cool, dry place, at a temperature not exceeding 30°C. Keep out of reach of children.
