Indications

Hyzaar is indicated for the treatment of essential hypertension in adults. The combination of losartan, an angiotensin II receptor antagonist, and hydrochlorothiazide, a thiazide diuretic, provides a synergistic effect that helps reduce blood pressure. This medication can be used in patients who do not achieve adequate blood pressure control with monotherapy alone. Additionally, it may be considered in hypertensive patients with comorbidities such as diabetes or chronic kidney disease, complementing the comprehensive management of their condition.

Composition

Each Hyzaar tablet contains 100 mg of losartan potassium and 25 mg of hydrochlorothiazide, as well as excipients that allow for product formulation.

Contraindications

Hyzaar is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to losartan, hydrochlorothiazide, or any of the excipients in the formulation. It is also contraindicated in patients with a history of angioedema associated with previous ACE inhibitor treatments, as well as in those with anuria or severe renal impairment.

Precautions

Caution is advised when administering Hyzaar to patients with a history of kidney, liver, or electrolyte problems. Careful monitoring is also required in patients taking other antihypertensives or diuretics to avoid hypotension or dehydration. Renal function should be assessed before and during treatment.

Storage

Hyzaar should be stored in its original packaging, in a cool, dry place, away from direct light and out of the reach of children. It is recommended to keep it at a temperature below 30°C.
