Indications
Humulin R is indicated for the treatment of type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus in patients who require insulin to control their blood glucose levels. This medication is used to improve glycemic control in adults and children, providing rapid action for the management of postprandial hyperglycemia. It can also be used in emergency situations, such as in patients with diabetic ketoacidosis. Humulin R insulin can be administered in combination with other oral antidiabetic drugs in patients with type 2 diabetes who do not achieve adequate control with oral medications alone.
Composition
Each mL of Humulin R contains 100 units of recombinant human insulin (equivalent to 0.34 mg). Excipients: sodium chloride, hydrochloric acid, and water for injection.
Contraindications
Humulin R is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to human insulin or any of the excipients in the formulation. It should not be used during episodes of hypoglycemia or in patients with severe hypoglycemia without adequate medical supervision.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised when using Humulin R in patients with renal or hepatic disease, as well as in those who experience fluctuations in their glucose levels. It is important to regularly monitor blood glucose levels and adjust insulin doses as needed, especially in situations of stress, illness, or changes in diet and physical activity.
Storage
Store Humulin R refrigerated between 2°C and 8°C. Do not freeze. Once opened, it can be stored at room temperature (not exceeding 30°C) for up to 28 days. Keep out of reach of children.
