Indications
Humulin N is an intermediate-acting recombinant human insulin indicated for glucose control in patients with type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus. It is used as part of a treatment regimen that includes regular blood glucose monitoring and can be combined with rapid-acting insulin or oral diabetes medications, depending on the individual patient's needs. Humulin N helps reduce postprandial glucose levels and maintain glucose within an optimal range throughout the day. It is essential to follow the prescribing physician's instructions to adjust the dose and administration schedule according to the patient's response to treatment.
Composition
Each mL of Humulin N contains 100 units of recombinant human insulin, as well as excipients such as sodium chloride, hydrochloric acid, and water for injection.
Contraindications
Humulin N is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to human insulin or any of the excipients in the formulation. It should not be administered to patients experiencing hypoglycemic episodes or conditions that predispose to severe hypoglycemia.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised when administering Humulin N to patients with liver or kidney disease, as well as those who experience recurrent hypoglycemic episodes. It is advisable to adjust the dose in situations of stress, illness, or changes in diet. Frequent monitoring of glucose levels is essential to avoid decompensations.
Storage
Store at a controlled temperature between 2°C and 8°C. Do not freeze. Once opened, the vial can be stored at room temperature, not exceeding 30°C, and must be used within 28 days of opening. Keep out of reach of children.
