Indications

Humulin N is indicated for the treatment of diabetes mellitus in patients requiring insulin for blood glucose control. It is used in patients with type 1 and type 2 diabetes, where intensive glucose control is needed. It can also be used in situations of acute hyperglycemia or in the management of diabetes during pregnancy, under the supervision of a physician. Isophane insulin provides a prolonged effect, allowing adequate glucose control between meals and overnight.

Composition

Each milliliter of Humulin N contains isophane insulin (recombinant) 100 units/ml. Excipients: sodium chloride, water for injection, and other necessary excipients for the formulation.

Contraindications

This medication is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to isophane insulin or any of the excipients in the formulation. It should not be used in situations of severe hypoglycemia and in patients with recurrent episodes of hypoglycemia. It is also contraindicated in patients with severe liver or kidney disease, unless adequately monitored.

Precautions

Caution should be exercised when administering Humulin N to patients with a history of hypoglycemia or who are being treated with medications that can affect blood glucose levels. It is important to regularly monitor glucose levels to adjust insulin dosage as needed. In addition, patients should be informed about the signs and symptoms of hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia.

Storage

Humulin N should be stored in the refrigerator between 2°C and 8°C. It must not be frozen. Once opened, the cartridge can be stored at room temperature (not exceeding 30°C) for a maximum of 28 days, keeping it away from direct light.
