Indications

Humalog (Insulin Lispro) is indicated for the treatment of diabetes mellitus in adults and children, as well as for blood glucose control in patients with type 1 and type 2 diabetes. This medication is used for the management of hyperglycemia during meals and for blood glucose control in emergency situations, such as diabetic ketoacidosis. Humalog is administered subcutaneously and can be used in combination with long-acting insulin or oral antidiabetic medications. Dosage is individualized and should be adjusted according to the patient's needs and clinical response.

Composition

Humalog contains insulin lispro as the active ingredient. Each ml of solution contains 100 units of insulin lispro. Excipients include glycerol, metacresol, phenol, pH adjusted with hydrochloric acid and/or sodium hydroxide, and water for injections.

Contraindications

Humalog is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to insulin lispro or to any of the excipients in the formulation. It is also contraindicated in patients with severe hypoglycemia episodes or in those with conditions that may interfere with insulin absorption.

Precautions

Caution should be exercised in patients with kidney or liver disease, as well as in those with fluctuating blood glucose levels. It is important to monitor glucose levels and adjust insulin dosage as needed. The use of Humalog should be supervised by a physician, especially in patients initiating treatment or changing insulin types.

Storage

Humalog should be stored at temperatures between 2 and 8 °C and should not be frozen. Once opened, it can be kept at room temperature (below 30 °C) for a period of 28 days. It should be protected from light and kept in its original packaging.
