Indications

Humalog is indicated for the treatment of diabetes mellitus in adults and children aged 3 years and above. It is used for blood glucose control in patients requiring insulin, especially during meals. This medication is effective in the treatment of type 1 and type 2 diabetes, and can be used in combination with other oral antidiabetics or long-acting insulin. The rapid-acting human insulin allows for more precise control of blood glucose levels in food intake situations.

Composition

Each ml of Humalog contains: Insulin lispro (human insulin) 100 Units, excipients: sodium chloride, hydrochloric acid, and water for injection.

Contraindications

Humalog is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to insulin lispro or any of the excipients in the formulation. Caution should also be exercised in patients with severe hypoglycemic episodes, and in those with severe diseases or conditions that may affect insulin metabolism.

Precautions

It is recommended to monitor blood glucose levels and adjust the insulin dose as needed, especially in situations of changes in diet, physical activity level, or illness. Patients should be instructed on the signs and symptoms of hypoglycemia and how to manage them appropriately. Care should be taken when using Humalog in patients with renal or hepatic insufficiency, as dose adjustment may be necessary.

Storage

Humalog should be stored in a cool, dry place, at temperatures between 2°C and 8°C. It must not be frozen. Once opened, it can be stored at room temperature for up to 28 days, provided it is not exposed to extreme temperatures or light. It must be used within the expiration date indicated on the package.
