Indications
Haldol (Haloperidol) is indicated for the treatment of psychotic disorders, including schizophrenia and other psychoses. It is also used in the treatment of manic episodes in bipolar disorder, as well as in supportive therapy for the treatment of acute symptoms of agitation and delirium. Furthermore, it can be prescribed for the treatment of tics in Tourette's syndrome and as part of the management of aggressive or impulsive behavior in patients with personality disorders. Its use must be evaluated and monitored by a healthcare professional, taking into account the individual characteristics of the patient and the severity of the symptoms presented.
Composition
Each ml of Haldol contains 2 mg of Haloperidol as the active ingredient. Excipients include: purified water, sodium edetate, hydrochloric acid and/or sodium hydroxide to adjust pH.
Contraindications
The use of Haldol is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Haloperidol or any of the formula's components. It is also contraindicated in patients with Parkinson's disease and in those with central nervous system depression. Its use in combination with other centrally depressing medications is not recommended without adequate medical supervision.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of seizures, cardiovascular disease, hepatic or renal insufficiency. It is important to consider the risk of neuroleptic malignant syndrome and tardive dyskinesia, as well as regular patient monitoring during treatment. Use in geriatric populations is recommended to be avoided, except in exceptionally justified cases.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, at a temperature not exceeding 30 °C. Keep out of reach of children and protect from light.
