Indications

Glucovance is indicated for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adult patients who cannot adequately control their blood glucose through diet and exercise, or who require additional treatment to other oral antidiabetic medications. This medication combines metformin, which acts by reducing glucose production in the liver and improving insulin sensitivity, and glibenclamide, which stimulates insulin release by the pancreas. Its use is especially indicated in overweight patients and in those for whom stricter glycemic control is necessary.

Composition

Each Glucovance tablet contains 500 mg of Metformin and 5 mg of Glibenclamide, as well as excipients necessary for the product's formulation.

Contraindications

This medication is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to any of its components, in those with severe kidney or liver disease, unstable heart failure, diabetic ketoacidosis, and in situations of severe dehydration. It should not be used in patients experiencing episodes of hypoglycemia or in those with a history of severe allergic reactions to sulfonylureas.

Precautions

Caution is recommended in patients with a history of liver disease, alcohol consumption, or those who are under treatment with other medications that may cause hypoglycemia. Regular monitoring of blood glucose levels, as well as kidney function, is important during treatment.

Storage

Store in a cool, dry place, at a temperature not exceeding 25°C, and keep out of reach of children.
