Indications
Potassium Gluconate is indicated for the prevention and treatment of hypokalemia (low potassium levels in the blood). It is used in situations where potassium replacement is required, such as in patients undergoing diuretic treatment, those suffering from prolonged vomiting or diarrhea, and in conditions that cause significant potassium loss. It can also be used in the management of metabolic acidosis and in the prevention of cardiac arrhythmias associated with low potassium levels.
Composition
Each tablet contains 595 mg of Potassium Gluconate, equivalent to approximately 76 mg of elemental potassium.
Contraindications
This medication is contraindicated in patients with hyperkalemia (high potassium levels in the blood), severe renal failure, and in those who are allergic to any of the components of the formula. Furthermore, its use is not recommended in patients with diseases that prevent adequate potassium excretion.
Precautions
It should be used with caution in patients with heart conditions, heart rhythm disorders, or those undergoing treatments that may increase potassium levels. It is important to perform periodic blood potassium level checks during treatment. Concomitant use with potassium supplements or medications that may increase potassium levels in the body is not recommended.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, protected from light and out of the reach of children. Do not use after the expiration date indicated on the package.
