Indications

Glivec (Imatinib) is indicated for the treatment of adult and pediatric patients with chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) in chronic, accelerated, or blastic phases. It is also used in the treatment of patients with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) who present with the BCR-ABL fusion. Additionally, it is effective in the treatment of gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST) that are positive for the c-KIT gene mutation. This medication acts by inhibiting cell proliferation, specifically affecting malignant cells that depend on the activity of the BCR-ABL tyrosine kinase. Its use must be supervised by an oncologist, and regular patient monitoring is essential to evaluate treatment response and the potential appearance of adverse effects.

Composition

Each Glivec tablet contains 400 mg of Imatinib as the active ingredient. It also contains excipients that allow for the formulation and stability of the product.

Contraindications

Glivec is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Imatinib or any of the excipients in the formulation. Its use is not recommended during pregnancy and lactation, unless the benefit to the mother justifies the potential risk to the fetus or infant.

Precautions

It is important that regular blood tests are performed to monitor blood cell counts, as it can cause neutropenia or thrombocytopenia. Patients should be evaluated by their doctor to determine if they have a history of liver disease before starting treatment. Possible interactions with other medications, such as those metabolized by the liver, should also be considered.

Store in its original container, at room temperature, protected from light and humidity. Keep out of reach of children.
