Glimetal is indicated for the treatment of type 2 diabetes in adults, especially in patients who do not achieve adequate blood glucose control with metformin or when metformin therapy alone is insufficient. This medication combines two antidiabetic agents: glimepiride, which belongs to the sulfonylurea class, and metformin, which is a biguanide. Glimepiride works by increasing insulin secretion from the pancreas, while metformin improves insulin sensitivity and reduces glucose production in the liver. Together, these mechanisms help control blood glucose levels and improve glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes.
Composition
Each Glimetal tablet contains:
- Glimepiride: 4 mg
- Metformin: 1000 mg
Contraindications
Glimetal is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to glimepiride, metformin, or any of the excipients in the formulation. It is also contraindicated in cases of type 1 diabetes, diabetic ketoacidosis, severe renal failure, acute cardiovascular diseases, and conditions that may cause dehydration or tissue hypoxia.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised when administering Glimetal to patients with liver disease, moderate renal impairment, or those undergoing surgical procedures. It is important to monitor renal function and adjust the dose as necessary. Additionally, regular monitoring of blood glucose levels is recommended to prevent episodes of hypoglycemia.

Store in a cool, dry place, at temperatures not exceeding 25 °C. Keep out of reach of children.
