Indications

Glimetal is indicated for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adult patients, as an adjunct to diet and exercise, in those who do not achieve adequate blood glucose control with metformin alone or glimepiride alone. This medication is recommended for patients who require intensive glucose control and are overweight, as it has been shown to help improve glycemic control and reduce the risk of diabetes-related complications. Glimetal acts by combining the mechanisms of action of glimepiride, which stimulates insulin secretion, and metformin, which improves insulin sensitivity and decreases glucose production in the liver.

Composition

Each Glimetal tablet contains: 1 mg glimepiride and 500 mg metformin as active ingredients. It also includes excipients such as starch, microcrystalline cellulose, and other inactive components that facilitate the medication's formulation.

Contraindications

Glimetal is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to any of the formula's components, in those with type 1 diabetes mellitus, diabetic ketoacidosis, severe renal or hepatic insufficiency, as well as in conditions that may cause significant dehydration. It should not be used in combination with certain medications that may increase the risk of hypoglycemia.

Precautions

Regular monitoring of blood glucose and renal function is recommended during treatment. Caution should be exercised in patients over 65 years of age, as well as in those with a history of heart or lung diseases. Alcohol consumption should be avoided, as it can increase the risk of hypoglycemia.

Storage

Store in a cool, dry place, at temperatures not exceeding 30°C. Keep out of reach of children.
