Indications

Genotropin is a medication indicated for the treatment of growth disorders in children and adults with growth hormone deficiency. It is also indicated for the treatment of patients with Turner syndrome, chronic renal failure, and those experiencing severe weight loss and loss of muscle mass in patients with HIV/AIDS. Its use is aimed at improving height in children with idiopathic short stature and increasing muscle mass in adults with growth hormone deficiency.

Composition

Each Genotropin pen contains 12 mg of somatropin, which is a synthetic form of human growth hormone. It also contains excipients that facilitate its administration and preservation.

Contraindications

This medication is contraindicated in patients with active tumors, in those with hypersensitivity to somatropin or to any of the excipients in the formulation. Its use is not recommended in individuals with critical illnesses or in those with medical conditions that may be aggravated by growth hormone treatment.

Precautions

Regular medical follow-up is important during Genotropin treatment, as is evaluating the patient's growth and development. Caution should be exercised in patients with diabetes mellitus, as treatment may affect glucose control. Additionally, its use should be avoided in patients with medical conditions that may increase the risk of complications, such as certain heart diseases.

Storage

Genotropin should be stored refrigerated between 2°C and 8°C. Freezing should be avoided and the medication should be kept away from direct light. Once opened, the pen can be used for 28 days at room temperature, provided it has not been exposed to extreme temperatures.
