Indications
Galvus (vildagliptin) is indicated as a treatment for type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults. It is used as monotherapy or in combination with other oral antidiabetics, as well as with insulin, when glycemic control is not adequately achieved with diet and exercise. This medication works by increasing insulin secretion and decreasing glucose production by the liver, which helps control blood glucose levels.
Composition
Each Galvus tablet contains 50 mg of vildagliptin as the active ingredient. Additionally, it contains excipients such as lactose monohydrate, corn starch, among others, which aid in the formulation of the tablet.
Contraindications
Galvus is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to vildagliptin or to any of the excipients in the formulation. It should not be used in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus or for the treatment of diabetic ketoacidosis.
Precautions
Caution is recommended in patients with a history of pancreatitis, as well as in those with moderate to severe renal insufficiency. Regular monitoring of renal function should be performed, especially at the start of treatment. It is also important to consider blood glucose control to avoid episodes of hypoglycemia, especially when used in combination with other antidiabetics.
Storage
Store at room temperature, between 15 and 30 degrees Celsius, in a dry place protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
