Indications
Forxiga is indicated for the treatment of adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus, in combination with other oral antidiabetic medications or insulin, when adequate blood glucose control is not achieved. It can also be used in patients who are overweight or at risk of cardiovascular disease. Its mechanism of action is based on the inhibition of the sodium-glucose co-transporter type 2 (SGLT2), which leads to a decrease in glucose reabsorption in the kidneys, increasing its urinary excretion and, consequently, reducing blood glucose levels.
Composition
Each Forxiga tablet contains 10 mg of dapagliflozin as the active ingredient, as well as excipients such as lactose monohydrate, microcrystalline cellulose, among others.
Contraindications
Forxiga should not be administered to patients with known hypersensitivity to dapagliflozin or any of the excipients. It is also contraindicated in patients with type 1 diabetes, diabetic ketoacidosis, and in those with severe renal impairment or on dialysis.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of recurrent urinary tract infections, as well as in those at risk of dehydration. It is important to monitor renal function before and during treatment. Regular assessment of blood glucose and the patient's hydration status is recommended.
Storage
Store at room temperature, in a cool, dry place, out of reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date indicated on the packaging.
