Indications
Folivital 5 mg is indicated for the prevention and treatment of folic acid deficiency in the body, especially in situations that require a greater demand for this vitamin, such as during pregnancy and lactation. Folic acid is essential for DNA synthesis and proper cell development, making it a key component in the formation and maturation of red blood cells. Its use is fundamental to prevent megaloblastic anemias and contribute to the proper development of the nervous system in the fetus. Likewise, it is recommended for patients with gastrointestinal diseases that prevent adequate nutrient absorption.
Composition
Each Folivital tablet contains 5 mg of folic acid as an active ingredient. Additionally, it may contain excipients that facilitate its formulation and absorption.
Contraindications
Folivital is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to folic acid or any other component of the formula. It should not be administered in cases of undiagnosed anemia, as folic acid can mask a vitamin B12 deficiency and worsen megaloblastic anemia.
Precautions
It is important to use Folivital with caution in patients with a history of neoplastic diseases, as folic acid can stimulate the growth of certain malignant cells. It is recommended to monitor vitamin B12 levels in patients receiving prolonged treatment with folic acid. Furthermore, interactions with other medications should be considered, so it is essential to inform the physician about any concomitant treatment.
