Indications
Foetran is indicated in the treatment of dyslipidemias, which include elevated blood cholesterol and triglyceride levels. Its use is specifically indicated for patients with primary and mixed hypercholesterolemia, as well as those with hypertriglyceridemia. This medication works by lowering LDL (low-density lipoprotein) cholesterol and triglyceride levels, while potentially increasing HDL (high-density lipoprotein) cholesterol levels, thereby contributing to a reduction in cardiovascular risk. Its use is recommended in combination with an appropriate diet and other non-pharmacological measures such as exercise and weight control, to achieve better management of blood lipid levels.
Composition
Each Foetran tablet contains 100 mg of ciprofibrate as the active ingredient. It also contains excipients that allow for the formulation of the medicine, ensuring its stability and efficacy.
Contraindications
Foetran is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to ciprofibrate or any component of the formula. It is also contraindicated in cases of active liver disease, severe renal insufficiency, and in patients with a history of muscle disease related to fibrate use. Its use is not recommended during pregnancy and lactation, except when medically indicated.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of liver, kidney, or muscle disease. Regular monitoring of liver and kidney function is important during treatment. Likewise, it is advisable to avoid combining Foetran with other hypolipidemic agents without proper medical supervision, due to the risk of adverse effects. Patients should be informed about the possibility of adverse reactions and the importance of reporting any unusual symptoms to the treating physician.
