Indications
Fluoxetine is indicated for the treatment of major depressive disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), bulimia nervosa, and premenstrual dysphoric disorder. Fluoxetine acts as a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI), increasing serotonin levels in the brain and helping to improve mood and anxiety in patients presenting with these disorders. It is important that the administration of this medication be under medical supervision, with the dose adjusted according to the patient's response and the severity of the treated condition.
Composition
Each capsule contains 40 mg of fluoxetine. Excipients: gelatin, colorants, and other excipients according to the laboratory's formula.
Contraindications
Fluoxetine is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to fluoxetine or any of the excipients in the formulation. It should not be administered in combination with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) or within 14 days of their discontinuation. It is also contraindicated in patients with a history of untreated manic-depressive illness.
Precautions
Special precautions should be taken when administering fluoxetine to patients with a history of seizures, coagulation disorders, or those taking anticoagulants. Additionally, the emergence of suicidal symptoms should be monitored in young patients initiating antidepressant treatment. Continuous monitoring during treatment is recommended to evaluate efficacy and the occurrence of adverse effects.
