Indications
Fluoxac (fluoxetine) is indicated for the treatment of major depressive disorders in adults. It is also used in the treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorders, panic disorders, and anxiety disorders in adults. In pediatric patients, it has been indicated for the treatment of major depression and obsessive-compulsive disorder in children and adolescents. Fluoxetine acts as a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI), which helps improve mood and reduce anxiety in patients. It is recommended that this medication be administered under medical supervision, as its effectiveness and safety should be evaluated in each particular case.
Composition
Each tablet contains 20 mg of fluoxetine as the active ingredient, as well as excipients that allow for the formulation of the medication.
Contraindications
Fluoxac is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to fluoxetine or any of the components of the formula. It should not be administered to people who are using monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) or to those with a history of serotonin syndrome. Its use in combination with other antidepressants should be carefully evaluated by a physician.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of seizure disorders, hepatic or renal dysfunction, as well as in those with a history of substance abuse. It is important to monitor patients for the possibility of suicidal thoughts, especially at the beginning of treatment or when making dose adjustments. Treatment interruption should be done under strict medical supervision.
