Indications
Flagyl is indicated for the treatment of infections caused by microorganisms sensitive to metronidazole. This medication is effective in treating gastrointestinal tract infections, including intestinal amebiasis and giardiasis. It is also used for anaerobic infections, such as those caused by Bacteroides fragilis. Additionally, it is indicated for the treatment of gynecological infections, such as bacterial vaginosis and trichomoniasis. Its use is recommended for odontogenic infections and for prophylaxis of postoperative infections in abdominal and gynecological procedures. It is important that treatment be carried out under medical supervision, considering the susceptibility of the microorganism to this antimicrobial agent.
Composition
Each 5 ml of suspension contains: Metronidazole 250 mg, excipients: purified water, potassium sorbate, glycerol, among others.
Contraindications
Flagyl is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to metronidazole or any of the formulation's components. It should not be administered to patients with a history of neurological disease, especially those with epilepsy. It is also contraindicated in the first trimester of pregnancy and during lactation, unless strictly necessary and under medical supervision.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with liver or kidney diseases, as dose adjustment may be necessary. It is recommended to avoid alcohol consumption during treatment and for up to 48 hours after it ends, due to the possibility of adverse reactions. Monitor for the appearance of neurological symptoms during prolonged use. Likewise, interaction with other medications the patient is taking should be considered.
Storage
Store at room temperature, between 15 and 30 degrees Celsius. Keep the bottle tightly closed and protect from light. Do not use after the expiry date indicated on the packaging.
