Indications

Exforge is indicated for the treatment of essential hypertension in adults. The combination of amlodipine, a calcium channel blocker, and valsartan, an angiotensin II receptor blocker, acts synergistically to provide effective blood pressure reduction. This medication is especially useful in patients who require optimal blood pressure control and who have not reached their blood pressure target with monotherapy. Exforge can be used as initial treatment in patients expected to need multiple antihypertensive agents to achieve adequate control.

Composition

Each Exforge tablet contains 10 mg of amlodipine (as besylate) and 160 mg of valsartan.

Contraindications

Exforge is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to any of its components, as well as in those with a history of angioedema related to previous treatments with ACE inhibitors or angiotensin II receptor blockers. Its use is not recommended in patients with severe hepatic impairment, biliary obstruction, or those with severe renal impairment.

Precautions

Caution should be exercised in patients with aortic stenosis, ischemic heart disease, or heart failure. It is important to monitor blood pressure and renal function during treatment, especially in elderly patients or those with co-morbid conditions. The use of Exforge during pregnancy and lactation should be carefully evaluated, and its use in these cases is not recommended.

Storage

Exforge should be stored in a cool, dry place, at a temperature not exceeding 30°C. Keep out of reach of children.
