Indications
Epival ER is indicated for the treatment of seizure disorders, including epilepsy, as well as for the treatment of bipolar disorder for the control of manic and mixed episodes. Its use is effective in patients who require long-term management of these conditions, helping to stabilize mood and reduce the frequency of seizures. Additionally, it can be used as adjunctive therapy in combination with other anticonvulsants in patients who do not respond adequately to a single drug. Dosing should be adjusted individually, taking into account clinical response and plasma valproate concentrations.
Composition
Each Epival ER tablet contains 500 mg of divalproex sodium as the active ingredient, as well as excipients that allow for the formulation of the extended-release tablet.
Contraindications
Epival ER is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to valproate or any of the excipients in the formula, as well as in those with urea cycle disorders, severe liver disease, and in pregnant or lactating women, unless the benefits outweigh the potential risks.
Precautions
Caution is recommended in patients with a history of liver disorders, pancreatitis, or hematological disorders. Liver function and hematological parameters should be monitored before and during treatment. Additionally, care should be taken when administering the medication to patients with a history of substance abuse or at risk of suicide.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, at a temperature not exceeding 30 °C. Keep out of reach of children.
