Indications

Epival is indicated in the treatment of epileptic disorders, including partial and generalized seizures. It is also used in the management of manic episodes associated with bipolar disorder. Its anticonvulsant action is due to the stabilization of the neuronal membrane and the modulation of neurotransmitter activity, which contributes to the reduction of neuronal excitability. It is important to initiate treatment under medical supervision and adjust the dose according to the patient's response.

Composition

Each tablet contains 250 mg of divalproex sodium as an active ingredient. Additionally, it contains excipients such as starch, talc, and other inactive components that facilitate the tablet formulation.

Contraindications

Epival is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to divalproex sodium or to any other component of the formulation. It should not be administered in cases of severe liver disorders, urea cycle disorders, as well as in pregnant women unless strictly necessary. Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of pancreatitis or metabolic disease.

Precautions

Liver function monitoring is recommended before and during treatment, especially in the first six months of treatment. Special care should be taken in patients with a history of liver disease, as well as in those who are being treated with other anticonvulsants. Abrupt discontinuation of treatment can lead to an increase in seizure frequency.
