Indications
Epamin is indicated for the treatment of seizures. It is mainly used in patients with epilepsy to control partial and generalized seizures. It can also be prescribed for the management of cardiac arrhythmias, especially in cases of ventricular tachycardia. Phenytoin acts by stabilizing the neuronal membrane, which reduces excitability and the propagation of abnormal electrical impulses in the brain.
Composition
Each capsule contains 100 mg of phenytoin as the active ingredient. It also contains excipients such as starch, gelatin, and talc, which are used for the capsule formulation.
Contraindications
Epamin is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to phenytoin or any of the excipients in the formulation. It should not be administered to patients with complete heart block or those with Brugada syndrome. It is also contraindicated during pregnancy and breastfeeding, unless considered strictly necessary and under medical supervision.
Precautions
It is important to monitor patients undergoing treatment with Epamin, especially at the beginning of treatment and during dose adjustments, due to the risk of adverse effects such as phenytoin toxicity. Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of liver, kidney, or hematological diseases. Regular monitoring of plasma phenytoin levels is also recommended, as its pharmacokinetics can vary between individuals.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, at temperatures not exceeding 30°C. Keep out of reach of children. Do not use after the expiration date indicated on the package.
