Indications
Engerix B is indicated for the prevention of hepatitis B in people who have not been previously vaccinated. It is recommended for individuals at risk of contracting the disease, such as those working in the healthcare sector, people with multiple sexual partners, intravenous drug users, and those who have had close contact with infected individuals. Vaccination can be administered from 0 months of age, and the vaccination series consists of three doses administered at specific intervals to achieve an adequate immune response.
Composition
Each 0.5 ml syringe of Engerix B contains:
- Hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) 20 mcg
- Excipients: sodium chloride, disodium phosphate, monosodium phosphate, and water for injection.
Contraindications
Engerix B is contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to any component of the vaccine or to a previous dose of the vaccine. It should not be administered to people with acute febrile illness or severe acute infections until they resolve.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised when administering Engerix B to immunocompromised individuals or those with chronic diseases. The vaccine should not be used as a treatment for active or acute hepatitis B. It is important to monitor patients for adverse reactions after vaccine administration.
Storage
Engerix B should be stored refrigerated between 2°C and 8°C. Do not freeze. It should be protected from light and kept out of reach of children.
