Indications
Emend (fosaprepitant) is indicated for the prevention of acute and delayed nausea and vomiting associated with highly and moderately emetogenic chemotherapy in adults. It is used as part of a treatment regimen that includes a corticosteroid and a 5-HT3 serotonin receptor antagonist. In addition, fosaprepitant has been shown to be effective in reducing chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting in cancer patients, thereby improving their quality of life.
Composition
Each Emend ampoule contains 150 mg of fosaprepitant in the form of fosaprepitant dimeglumine, as well as the excipients necessary for the drug's formulation.
Contraindications
Emend is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to fosaprepitant, aprepitant, or any of the excipients in the formulation. Caution should also be exercised in patients with a history of severe allergic reactions to other medications.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised when using Emend in patients with hepatic impairment, as it may alter drug elimination. In addition, patients taking medications that are metabolized by the cytochrome P450 enzyme system should be monitored, as fosaprepitant may interfere with their metabolism. Monitoring for signs of adverse reactions during treatment is recommended.
Storage
Emend should be stored at temperatures between 2°C and 8°C. Do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children and protect from light. Ampoules should not be used after the expiry date indicated on the packaging.
