Indications
Eligard is indicated for the treatment of patients with advanced prostate cancer. Leuprorelin, its active ingredient, acts as a gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) analogue, causing a decrease in testosterone production in the body. This medication is used in situations where androgen deprivation therapy is required, either in cases of metastatic disease or as part of a combined treatment with radiotherapy.
In addition, it can be used in the treatment of hormone-dependent conditions such as endometriosis and uterine fibroids, through its inhibitory effect on the hypothalamic-pituitary axis.
Composition
Each prefilled syringe of Eligard contains 22.5 mg of leuprorelin, as well as excipients to facilitate its formulation and administration.
Contraindications
Eligard is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to leuprorelin or any of the excipients present in the formulation. Likewise, it should not be used in patients with hormone-dependent conditions not indicated for its treatment, or in those with severe cardiovascular disease.
Precautions
Continuous medical monitoring is important during treatment with Eligard, as it can cause adverse effects related to androgen deprivation, such as osteoporosis or metabolic disorders. Patients with a history of depression or psychiatric disorders should be carefully monitored.
Storage
Store at room temperature, between 15°C and 30°C, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
