Indications

Elequine is indicated for the treatment of susceptible bacterial infections, including:

  • Respiratory tract infections, such as community-acquired pneumonia and acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis.
  • Urinary tract infections, including pyelonephritis and cystitis.
  • Skin and soft tissue infections.
  • Complicated intra-abdominal infections.

This medication works by inhibiting bacterial DNA synthesis, making it an effective treatment against a wide variety of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.

Composition

Each Elequine tablet contains:

  • Levofloxacin (as levofloxacin hemihydrate) 500 mg.
  • Excipients: starch, microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate, among others.

Contraindications

It is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to levofloxacin or any other component of the formulation. Its use is not recommended in patients with a history of tendinitis or tendon rupture associated with fluoroquinolone use.

Precautions

Special care should be taken in patients with a history of epilepsy, renal failure, or those taking medications that may lower the seizure threshold. It is important to monitor for adverse reactions, especially during prolonged treatment.

Store at room temperature, in a dry and cool place, protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
