Indications
Dulcolax is indicated for the treatment of occasional constipation. Its action is based on stimulating intestinal peristalsis, which facilitates bowel movements. It is used in cases where a rapid bowel evacuation is required, for example, before surgical or diagnostic procedures that require bowel cleansing. Dulcolax can also be used in the treatment of conditions where straining during defecation needs to be prevented, such as in patients with hemorrhoids or anal fissures.
Composition
Each tablet contains: Bisacodyl 5 mg as active ingredient. Excipients: corn starch, lactose, magnesium stearate, among others.
Contraindications
Dulcolax should not be used in patients with known hypersensitivity to bisacodyl or any component of the formulation. It is contraindicated in cases of intestinal obstruction, appendicitis, inflammatory bowel diseases, and in patients with abdominal pain of unknown origin. Its use during pregnancy and lactation without medical supervision is not recommended.
Precautions
Caution is recommended in patients with gastrointestinal disorders, dehydration, or those who are undergoing treatment with diuretics. It should not be used for prolonged periods, as it may lead to dependence or alter normal bowel function. It is important to maintain adequate hydration and a balanced diet to prevent constipation.
