Indications
Diovan is indicated for the treatment of high blood pressure in adults. It is also used to reduce the risk of cardiovascular events in patients with hypertension and established coronary artery disease. Additionally, it is indicated in patients with heart failure to improve cardiac function and quality of life. Valsartan administration may be suitable for patients who cannot tolerate other antihypertensive medications, such as angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors.
Composition
Each Diovan tablet contains 160 mg of Valsartan as the active ingredient. Additionally, it contains excipients such as starch, microcrystalline cellulose, and other inactive compounds that facilitate the tablet's formulation.
Contraindications
Diovan is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Valsartan or to any of the excipients in the formula. It should not be administered to patients with a history of angioedema associated with previous treatment with ACE inhibitors. It is also contraindicated during pregnancy and lactation, as well as in patients with severe hepatic dysfunction or severe renal insufficiency.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with aortic stenosis or renovascular hypertension. It is important to monitor renal function and electrolytes in patients treated with Diovan, especially in those who are dehydrated or on diuretic treatment. Concomitant use with other antihypertensives without medical supervision is also recommended to be avoided.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, at room temperature not exceeding 30°C. Keep out of reach of children and protect from direct light.
