Indications
Dimefor XR is indicated for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults. It is used as monotherapy or in combination with other oral antidiabetics or insulin, in patients whose glycemic control is not achieved through diet and exercise. Metformin helps improve blood glucose control by decreasing glucose production in the liver and improving insulin sensitivity in peripheral tissues. This medication is especially useful in overweight or obese patients, given its safety profile and the possibility of aiding in weight loss.
Composition
Each Dimefor XR tablet contains 500 mg of metformin, in addition to excipients that allow for the formulation of the product.
Contraindications
This medication is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to metformin or any of the excipients in the formula. It should not be used in cases of renal failure, acute or chronic diseases that may affect renal function, as well as in patients with a history of lactic acidosis. Likewise, it is contraindicated in situations of dehydration, such as in cases of severe diarrhea or vomiting.
Precautions
It is recommended to monitor renal function before starting treatment with Dimefor XR and periodically during its use. It is essential to monitor blood glucose levels and glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) to evaluate the effectiveness of the treatment. Patients should be informed about the signs and symptoms of lactic acidosis. Furthermore, caution is important in elderly patients and those with cardiovascular diseases.
