Indications
Dimefor is indicated for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus, especially in overweight and obese patients who do not achieve adequate blood glucose control through diet and exercise alone. It is used as a first-line treatment in combination with other oral antidiabetics or insulin. In addition, it may be indicated for the prevention of diabetes in individuals with glucose intolerance. Metformin helps improve insulin sensitivity and decrease hepatic glucose production, thereby contributing to better glycemic control.
Composition
Each Dimefor tablet contains: Metformin HCl 850 mg.
Contraindications
Dimefor is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to metformin or any of the excipients; in those with severe renal or hepatic insufficiency; in cases of lactic acidosis; and in situations of dehydration, severe infections or during surgical interventions requiring prolonged fasting.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of kidney, liver, or heart disease. It is important to monitor renal function before initiating treatment and periodically during its use. Metformin may increase the risk of lactic acidosis, especially in patients with conditions that favor its development. It is recommended to discontinue treatment in the case of diagnostic procedures involving the use of iodinated contrast media.
