Indications
Depo-Provera (medroxyprogesterone) is indicated for the prevention of pregnancy in women of childbearing age. This long-acting contraceptive is administered by intramuscular injection, providing effective protection for approximately three months. Additionally, it is used in the treatment of menstrual disorders such as secondary amenorrhea and for the management of endometriosis. In certain cases, it is also prescribed for the treatment of some types of endometrial and kidney cancer, as well as for the prevention of endometrial hyperplasia in women receiving estrogen therapy.
Composition
Each Depo-Provera syringe contains 150 mg of medroxyprogesterone in 1 ml of injectable solution.
Contraindications
This medication is contraindicated in patients with a history of allergy to medroxyprogesterone or to any of the excipients in the formulation. It is also contraindicated in women with severe liver disease, known or suspected breast cancer, and in cases of undiagnosed vaginal bleeding. It should not be administered to pregnant or breastfeeding women without proper evaluation.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, uncontrolled hypertension, or a history of severe depression. A complete medical examination is important before starting treatment, and the patient's health should be monitored regularly during its use.
Storage
Store at room temperature, between 15 and 30 °C. Keep out of reach of children and protect from light. Do not use the medication after the expiration date indicated on the package.
