Indications
Depakene (valproic acid) is indicated in the treatment of epilepsy, both in partial and generalized seizures. It is effective in preventing convulsive seizures in patients with myoclonic epilepsy and in the management of bipolar disorder, helping to stabilize mood in manic and mixed episodes. Additionally, it is used in the treatment of migraine as a prophylactic to reduce the frequency of attacks. Dosage should be adjusted according to clinical response and the patient's plasma concentrations.
Composition
Each 5 ml of syrup contains 250 mg of valproic acid, as well as excipients necessary for the formulation of the product.
Contraindications
Depakene is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to valproic acid or to any of the components of the formula. It should not be used in patients with severe liver diseases, urea cycle disorders, or in those with a history of acute pancreatitis related to the use of medications containing valproic acid.
Precautions
Caution is recommended when administering this medication to patients with liver diseases, hematological disorders, or who are being treated with other antiepileptic drugs. Care should also be taken in pregnant women, as valproic acid may have teratogenic effects. Regular monitoring of plasma concentrations and liver function is important during treatment.
Storage
Store the medication in a cool, dry place, at a temperature not exceeding 25°C. Keep out of reach of children and do not use after the expiration date indicated on the package.
