Indications
Depakene is indicated for the treatment of various seizure disorders, including epilepsy, in adults and children. It is also used in the management of bipolar disorder and in the prevention of manic episodes. Valproic acid works by stabilizing electrical activity in the brain and reducing the frequency of seizures. Additionally, it has been used in the treatment of migraines and in patients with behavioral disorders or impulsivity.
Composition
Each Depakene capsule contains 250 mg of valproic acid as the active ingredient, in addition to excipients that allow for the formulation of the medication.
Contraindications
This medication is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to valproic acid or to any component of the formula. It should not be administered to patients with severe liver diseases, urea cycle disorders, or during pregnancy, unless under strict medical supervision and deemed necessary.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in its use in patients with a history of liver disorders, pancreatitis, or in those who consume alcohol. It is important to regularly monitor blood valproic acid levels and liver function during treatment. In pediatric patients, careful supervision is recommended due to the risk of adverse effects.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, at a temperature not exceeding 30°C. Keep the bottle tightly closed and out of reach of children.
