Indications
Cytotec is indicated for the prevention and treatment of gastric ulcers induced by the use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). It is also used for labor induction and uterine evacuation in cases of spontaneous or therapeutic abortion. Misoprostol, its active ingredient, acts as a prostaglandin E1 analog, which helps protect the gastric mucosa and regulate uterine tone.
Composition
Each Cytotec tablet contains 200 mcg of misoprostol as the active ingredient. Additionally, it contains excipients such as starch, lactose, and other inactive components that facilitate the formulation of the medication.
Contraindications
Cytotec is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to misoprostol or any of its components. It should not be used in pregnant women unless specifically indicated for labor induction or in cases of abortion, as it can cause uterine contractions and adverse effects on the fetus. It is also contraindicated in patients with a history of inflammatory gastrointestinal diseases or those not under adequate medical supervision.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with cardiovascular, renal, or hepatic diseases. Medical monitoring is important during the use of Cytotec, especially in women of childbearing age or those who may become pregnant. Pregnancy tests are recommended before starting treatment to avoid unnecessary risks.
Storage
Store at room temperature, between 15 and 30 degrees Celsius. Keep out of reach of children and protect from light and moisture. Do not use after the expiration date indicated on the package.
