Indications
Cordarone is indicated in the treatment of various cardiac arrhythmias, including atrial fibrillation, ventricular tachycardia, and ventricular fibrillation. It is particularly useful in cases where other antiarrhythmics have not been effective. Additionally, it can be used for the prevention of postoperative arrhythmias in patients who have undergone cardiac surgery. Amiodarone acts by stabilizing the cell membrane and prolonging the action potential, resulting in a decrease in heart rate and the restoration of sinus rhythm.
Composition
Each ampoule of Cordarone contains: 150 mg of amiodarone, in addition to excipients such as water for injection and other components necessary for the drug's formulation.
Contraindications
It is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to amiodarone or any of the formula's components. It should also be avoided in patients with uncontrolled thyroid dysfunction, severe bradycardia, second- or third-degree atrioventricular block, and in those with sick sinus syndrome. Its use is not recommended in pregnant or breastfeeding women, unless the benefits outweigh the potential risks.
Precautions
Regular monitoring of thyroid function and liver function should be performed during amiodarone treatment. Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of lung disease, as there is a risk of pulmonary toxicity. Additionally, cardiac function should be monitored in patients who experience heart rhythm disturbances or who are receiving other antiarrhythmic drugs.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, at a temperature not exceeding 30 °C. Keep out of reach of children and do not use after the expiration date indicated on the package.
