Indications

Co-Diovan is indicated for the treatment of essential hypertension in adults. The combination of valsartan, an angiotensin II receptor antagonist, and hydrochlorothiazide, a thiazide diuretic, allows for more effective blood pressure control in patients with hypertension. This medication can also be used in patients who have not achieved adequate blood pressure control with a single antihypertensive. Furthermore, it has been shown to be effective in reducing the risk of cardiovascular events in patients with hypertension and associated risk factors.

Composition

Each tablet contains: 160 mg of valsartan and 12.5 mg of hydrochlorothiazide.

Contraindications

Co-Diovan is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to the components of the formulation, in those with a history of angioedema associated with prior treatment with angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors or angiotensin II receptor antagonists. It is also contraindicated in patients with severe renal insufficiency and in those who are undergoing treatment with diuretics that cause severe volume depletion.

Precautions

Caution should be exercised when using Co-Diovan in patients with hepatic insufficiency, renal artery stenosis, or in those who are being treated with other antihypertensives, as they may increase the risk of hypotension. Monitoring of renal function and electrolytes is recommended in patients receiving this medication.

Storage

Store at room temperature, between 15 and 30 degrees Celsius, in a dry place away from direct light. Keep out of reach of children.
