Indications
Clavulin is indicated in the treatment of bacterial infections caused by germs susceptible to its action. It is commonly used for upper and lower respiratory tract infections, acute otitis media, sinusitis, skin and soft tissue infections, as well as urinary tract infections. This medication combines amoxicillin, a broad-spectrum antibiotic, with clavulanic acid, a beta-lactamase inhibitor, which broadens its effectiveness against bacteria that might be resistant to amoxicillin alone.
Composition
Each 5 ml of suspension contains:
- Amoxicillin (as trihydrate) 600 mg
- Clavulanic Acid (as potassium) 42.9 mg
Contraindications
Clavulin is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to amoxicillin, clavulanic acid, or other beta-lactam antibiotics. It should also be avoided in cases of severe hepatic insufficiency and in patients with a history of jaundice or hepatic dysfunction associated with the use of amoxicillin/clavulanic acid.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised when administering this medication to patients with a history of renal dysfunction, as well as those with allergic diseases. It is important to monitor liver and kidney function during treatment, especially in prolonged therapies. Additionally, it is recommended to evaluate the use of Clavulin in pregnant or breastfeeding women, as well as in children under 2 years of age.
Storage
The product should be stored in a cool, dry place, protected from light and out of reach of children. The suspension must be shaken before use and, once prepared, it should be used within 7 days if kept at room temperature.
