Indications
Cicloferon is indicated in the treatment of infections caused by acyclovir-sensitive viruses, including herpes simplex, herpes zoster, and varicella. This medication is used for the treatment of acute herpes virus infections, as well as for prophylaxis in immunocompromised patients. Cicloferon is effective in reducing the duration and severity of outbreaks, in addition to helping decrease the frequency of recurrences in patients with a history of herpetic infections. It has also been used in the treatment of cytomegalovirus infections in organ transplant patients.
Composition
Each Cicloferon tablet contains 400 mg of acyclovir as the active ingredient. Excipients include: corn starch, magnesium stearate, talc, and microcrystalline cellulose.
Contraindications
Cicloferon is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to acyclovir or any of the excipients in the formulation. Its use should also be avoided in patients with severe renal insufficiency, as well as in those with severe dehydration.
Precautions
It is recommended to use Cicloferon with caution in patients with a history of neurological disorders, as it may cause adverse effects on the nervous system. Likewise, renal function should be evaluated before starting treatment, given that acyclovir is primarily eliminated via this route. It is important to consider adequate patient hydration to prevent nephrotoxicity.
Storage
Store Cicloferon in its original packaging at room temperature, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
