Indications

Calutol (bicalutamide) is indicated for the treatment of advanced prostate cancer, both as monotherapy and in combination with other treatments. Its use is particularly relevant in cases where testosterone production suppression is required, as it acts as an androgen receptor antagonist. Furthermore, it is used in patients who have received androgen deprivation therapy, as it helps counteract the effects of testosterone on cancer cells. Its efficacy has been demonstrated in clinical studies, where a reduction in disease progression and an improvement in patients' quality of life have been observed.

Composition

Each Calutol tablet contains 50 mg of bicalutamide as the active ingredient. It also includes excipients such as lactose, corn starch, microcrystalline cellulose, and other inert components that facilitate its formulation and administration.

Contraindications

Calutol is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to bicalutamide or any of the excipients in the formulation. It should also be avoided in women and pediatric patients, as well as in those with severe hepatic impairment.

Precautions

Caution is advised in patients with a history of liver disease, as bicalutamide metabolism primarily occurs in the liver. Special care should also be taken in patients who are taking other medications that may affect hepatic metabolism. Regular monitoring of transaminase levels is important in these patients.

Storage

Store in a cool, dry place, at a temperature not exceeding 30°C. Keep out of reach of children and do not use after the expiration date indicated on the packaging.
