Indications
Avodart is indicated for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in men. This medication helps to reduce prostate size and improves urinary symptoms associated with this condition, such as difficulty starting urination, weak urine flow, and frequent need to urinate, especially at night. Dutasteride works by inhibiting the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a hormone that contributes to prostate growth. It is important to mention that the use of Avodart may be associated with a decrease in the risk of developing prostate cancer in some patients.
Composition
Each Avodart capsule contains 5 mg of dutasteride as the active ingredient. It also contains excipients such as gelatin, glycerin, and other components for capsule formulation.
Contraindications
Avodart is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to dutasteride or any component of the formula. It should not be administered to women, especially during pregnancy or lactation, as it may cause adverse effects in the male fetus. It is also contraindicated in patients with severe liver diseases.
Precautions
Regular medical monitoring is recommended during treatment with Avodart. Patients should be informed about the possibility of adverse effects, such as sexual dysfunction, and should be monitored for any changes in PSA (prostate-specific antigen) levels. Additionally, caution should be exercised in patients receiving other medications that may affect the liver.
Storage
Store at room temperature, between 15 and 30 degrees Celsius. Keep the bottle tightly closed and out of reach of children. Do not use after the expiration date indicated on the package.
