Indications

Avelox is indicated for the treatment of bacterial infections in adults. It is effective in the management of respiratory tract infections, including community-acquired pneumonia, acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis, and acute sinusitis. It is also used for skin and soft tissue infections, as well as complicated intra-abdominal infections. Moxifloxacin works by inhibiting bacterial DNA synthesis, resulting in the death of susceptible bacteria.

Composition

Each Avelox tablet contains 400 mg of moxifloxacin as the active ingredient. Excipients: microcrystalline cellulose, starch, magnesium stearate, among others.

Contraindications

Avelox is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to moxifloxacin, other fluoroquinolones, or any of the components of the formula. It should not be administered to patients with a history of tendinopathy related to the use of fluoroquinolones, nor to those with epilepsy or a history of seizures.

Precautions

Caution should be exercised when administering Avelox to patients with a history of kidney disease, as renal function may affect drug elimination. Likewise, it is recommended to avoid use in patients with heart problems, especially those with a history of QT interval prolongation. It is important to evaluate the risk-benefit ratio in pregnant or breastfeeding women.

Storage

Store in a cool, dry place, at a temperature not exceeding 25 °C. Keep out of reach of children.
