Indications

Avapro is indicated for the treatment of essential hypertension in adults. It is also used in patients with type 2 diabetic nephropathy and proteinuria in combination with antihypertensive medications, to delay the progression of kidney disease. Irbesartan works by blocking the effects of angiotensin II, a compound that causes blood vessel constriction, resulting in a reduction in blood pressure.

Composition

Each Avapro tablet contains 150 mg of irbesartan as the active ingredient. Excipients include: microcrystalline cellulose, corn starch, silicon dioxide, among others.

Contraindications

This medication is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to irbesartan or to any of the excipients in the formula. It is also contraindicated in pregnant or breastfeeding women, as well as in patients with a history of angioedema associated with treatment with angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEIs) or angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs).

Precautions

Special precautions should be taken in patients with renal artery stenosis, renal insufficiency, heart failure, and in those undergoing diuretic treatment. Blood pressure and kidney function should be monitored during treatment. In some cases, dose adjustment may be necessary.

Storage

Store at room temperature, between 15 and 30 degrees Celsius, in a dry place and away from direct light. Keep out of reach of children.
