Indications
Avalide is indicated for the treatment of essential hypertension in adults. This medication works through the combination of two active ingredients: Irbesartan, an angiotensin II receptor antagonist, and Hydrochlorothiazide, a thiazide diuretic. The combination of these two compounds allows for more effective blood pressure control in patients requiring multiple antihypertensive therapies. In addition, Avalide can be used in patients who do not achieve adequate blood pressure control with monotherapy. Regular monitoring of blood pressure and dose adjustment as needed is important.
Composition
Each tablet contains:
- Irbesartan: 150 mg
- Hydrochlorothiazide: 12.5 mg
Contraindications
Avalide is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to any component of the formula, as well as in those with a history of angioedema related to previous treatments with ACE inhibitors or angiotensin II receptor blockers. Its use is not recommended in patients with severe renal failure or in those who are being treated with potent diuretics, due to the risk of electrolyte imbalance.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of cardiovascular disease, renal failure, diabetes mellitus, and those who are receiving other antihypertensives or medications that may affect potassium levels. Monitoring of renal function and electrolytes during treatment with Avalide is essential.
