Indications
Pediatric Augmentin is indicated for the treatment of bacterial infections in pediatric patients. It is used in the management of upper respiratory tract infections, such as sinusitis and acute otitis media, as well as lower respiratory tract infections, including pneumonia. It is also indicated for urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and for the treatment of odontogenic infections. The combination of amoxicillin and clavulanate enhances the effectiveness of the antibiotic, especially in infections caused by beta-lactamase-producing bacteria, which are resistant to many antibiotics. It is important that the use of Augmentin is based on the physician's evaluation, who will determine the appropriate duration and dosage according to the severity of the infection and the patient's age.
Composition
Each 5 ml of suspension contains: Amoxicillin (as amoxicillin trihydrate) 125 mg and Clavulanic acid (as potassium clavulanate) 31.25 mg.
Contraindications
Augmentin is contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to amoxicillin, clavulanic acid, or other beta-lactam antibiotics. It is also contraindicated in patients with a history of jaundice or hepatic dysfunction associated with the use of amoxicillin/clavulanic acid.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of liver disease, in those with allergies to other antibiotics, and in patients with mononucleosis infections. It is important to monitor liver function during prolonged treatment. The possibility of anaphylactic reactions should be considered in patients with a history of allergies.
Storage
Store at room temperature between 15° and 30°C. Protect from light and moisture. Once the suspension is reconstituted, it should be stored in refrigeration and used within 7 days.
