Indications
Atrovent is indicated for the treatment and prevention of bronchospasms associated with obstructive airway diseases, such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma. This medication acts as a muscarinic receptor antagonist, which allows the airways to dilate, facilitating breathing. It is also used in emergency situations for the management of asthmatic crises in patients requiring rapid bronchodilation.
Composition
Each aerosol dose contains 21 micrograms of ipratropium bromide, which is the active ingredient responsible for its therapeutic effects. In addition, it contains excipients that allow for the proper administration of the medication through the aerosol device.
Contraindications
Atrovent is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to ipratropium bromide, other anticholinergic medications, or any of the formula's components. Its use is not recommended in patients with narrow-angle glaucoma or obstructive prostatic hyperplasia without proper medical supervision.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of cardiovascular disease, hypertension, or urinary problems. Regular medical follow-up is important for patients who experience an unusual response to treatment. Avoid contact of the aerosol with the eyes, as it may cause irritation.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, at a temperature not exceeding 30°C. Keep out of reach of children. Do not use after the expiration date indicated on the package.
