Indications
Ativan (Lorazepam) is indicated for the treatment of anxiety disorders, where a reduction in emotional tension and anxiety is sought. It is also indicated for the short-term management of acute anxiety episodes and can be used in the treatment of anxiety-associated insomnia. Additionally, it is used as a pre-medication in surgical and diagnostic procedures, as well as in the management of alcohol withdrawal syndrome. This medication acts on the central nervous system, producing a sedative, anxiolytic, anticonvulsant, and amnesic effect.
Composition
Each tablet contains: Lorazepam 2 mg. Excipients: Lactose, corn starch, magnesium stearate, and other excipients.
Contraindications
Ativan is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to lorazepam or any of the excipients in the formulation. It should not be administered in cases of severe respiratory insufficiency, sleep apnea syndrome, myasthenia gravis, and in patients with a history of substance abuse.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of depression, liver or kidney disease, and in those who may require an adjusted dose. Prolonged use can lead to dependence and tolerance. In elderly or debilitated patients, it is recommended to start treatment with lower doses and to carefully monitor. Use during pregnancy and lactation should be evaluated by a doctor, given the potential risk to the fetus or infant.
Storage
Store in its original container at room temperature, between 15 and 30 degrees Celsius, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
