Indications
Atarax (hydroxyzine) is indicated for the treatment of various conditions related to allergies and anxiety. It is used in the management of symptoms of allergic rhinitis, urticaria, and other allergic skin reactions. It is also used in the treatment of anxiety and as a premedication for surgical and diagnostic procedures, due to its sedative properties. Hydroxyzine can be effective in reducing itching associated with dermatological conditions, as well as improving sleep in patients with insomnia secondary to anxiety.
Composition
Each Atarax tablet contains 10 mg of hydroxyzine as the active ingredient. Additionally, it contains excipients such as starch, lactose, and other inactive components that facilitate the formulation of the medicine.
Contraindications
Atarax is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to hydroxyzine or to any of the excipients in the formulation. It is also contraindicated in patients undergoing treatment with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) and in those with closed-angle glaucoma. Its use during pregnancy and lactation should be carefully evaluated by the treating physician.
Precautions
Caution is recommended in patients with a history of respiratory diseases, especially in those with asthma or COPD. Care should also be taken in patients with hepatic or renal insufficiency, as the elimination of hydroxyzine may be affected. The consumption of alcohol and other sedatives should be avoided during treatment with Atarax, as they may potentiate its sedative effects.
Storage
Store the medicine in a cool, dry place, at a temperature not exceeding 30°C. Keep out of reach of children and do not use the medicine after the expiration date indicated on the packaging.
